One of the most frequent questions we get from customers is “What’s the difference between pipe and tube”? Although pipes and tubes may look similar, they are in fact quite different in nomenclature and sizing. Remember that pipes and tubes are rarely interchangeable.
Pipes are only provided with an inside (nominal) diameter and a “schedule” (which means the wall thickness). There’s an easy way to remember this: since pipe is used to transfer fluids or gas, the size of the opening through which the fluids or gas can pass through is probably more important to you than the outer dimensions of the pipe. Tube measurements, on the other hand, are provided as an outside diameter and set ranges of wall thickness.
Only pipes are pressure rated and intended to be used for the transference of fluids or gas. Tubes, on the other hand, are used in structural applications. Strength-wise, tube is stronger than pipe.
Very fast service and just what I needed to repair a brass lamp.
Bought to use as a shower rod. This thing is never coming down, goodbye crappy tension rod. Very solid material and bright chrome color.
Sometimes you just can’t say enough about how a company works to make everything perfect. Great web site.
With some digging we found what we were looking for. We will use the 1/2” s/s tubing as stand-offs to string filiment over our dinghy on the boat deck to prevent birds from landing.
I needed a bar rail of 56 inches and contacted TDI to see if they could provide a custom size rail at the same price as a standard 5 foot rail. They did—at no extra cost— and fulfilled my order for a rail, support brackets and rail caps within just a few days. I immediately installed it and it looks great!
This tube is the correct outer diameter but I wish I could find it with a thinner wall. Otherwise, it is the closest to what I need. By cutting it into 2 1/2 inch lengths, I am using this tube to make miniature kaleidoscopes.
This brass railing is perfect for our family Christmas stocking. I ordered this on Monday 3pm and railing was installed by 2pm Wednesday.
Solid & well machined.
